Holiday Letter 2021

Dear Friends,

A small bit of housekeeping: Please check your spam folder to be sure my personal email marc@tfoatx.com is on your safe senders list. A few people are having issues receiving messages due to their router incorrectly blocking the www.tfoatx.com domain address. Thank you!

We at TFOA want to wish you and your loved ones, a safe, happy, and prosperous new year!

The winter holidays are a great time for reflection. This past April we held our 6th symposium in partnership with UT Dallas. This was the second time we’ve held an all-virtual event and our ability to curate engaging programming for our members was gratifying. Despite the difficulties Covid-19 has put on everyone, I’m delighted to say we have grown our community of family offices in a meaningful way. Our spring event also brought engagement from non-family office participants, who attended virtually.

In October, we hosted our 7th symposium in partnership with Southern Methodist University. This was our first hybrid event and members flew in from across the country to participate in person, while those who could not physically attend participated virtually. Most importantly, both symposiums allowed us to contribute meaningful student scholarships to the schools we partnered with.

Last year also saw the launch of TFOA Fund I, LP a members-only investment vehicle to provide support for some of the proprietary deal flow TFOA members have access to. While it isn’t possible to share all the details in this note, we believe having this capability is a true win, win, win for our members, TFOA, and the providers of unique deal flow that our networks attract.

In the realm of public speaking and events, TFOA hosted, moderated, and was featured in a variety of podcasts and summits last year. In all these activities we aim to provide a thoughtful perspective on the role family offices play within the broader realm of capital formation and management. We also authored a number of whitepapers  that were well received by the family office community. Our topics included multifamily offices, an assessment of family office philanthropy, and a fresh look at impact investing from the perspective of family office investment platforms. We also authored a whitepaper to describe the history of TFOA. This paper was especially important, as it shows how we’ve been able to grow as a values-led and conscious capital aligned community: The Story

So that's a wrap for 2021. We’re glad to count you as a friend and fellow traveler on this journey and please do let us know if we can ever  be helpful in any way!

Happy Holidays and a Prosperous New Year,

Marc J. Sharpe

Chairman and Founder
